The birth of Jesus Christ is significant globally as it marks the incarnation of God in human form, fulfilling Old Testament prophecies and promises, which results in the fulfillment of God's plan for humanity's salvation. The celebration of His birth is the demonstration of God’s love to take up the likeness of Man to save Mankind. God made it possible by the union of divinity with humanity without any confusion or mixture.
His Divinity
1. Pre-existence: Jesus Christ existed before His birth, as the Eternal Word of God (John 1:1-14)
2. Image and Fullness of God: Jesus Christ is the express Image of God and the fullness of Godhead dwells in Him, all divine attributes and power (Colossians 1:15; 1 Timothy 3:16)
3. Divine titles: Jesus Christ is referred to as the Son of God, Lord, and God in Scripture (Luke 1:35; John 20:28)
4. Divine Acts: Jesus Christ performed miracles and wonders of healing, raising the dead, controlling nature, etc.
5. Divine worship and prayer: Jesus Christ received worship and prayer, indicating His divinity (Matthew 14:33, John 14:14)
His Humanity
1. There was a day that the Godhead decided in the eternal past that Christ would come in a human form as the Son of God, Psalms 2:7; Hebrews 1:5
2. Also, the decision by the Godhead for Christ to come into the world was planned from the foundation of the world that Christ would come as a Lamb of God to be slain for the sins of the whole world Revelation 13:8
3. At the fall of man, God sought for a righteous man ( who is in the same human nature) that could redeem man, because a man must die for the fellow mankind, but unfortunately, there was none righteous enough to die for the sins of mankind, Psalms 14:2 – 3; Psalms 53:1-3
4. Hence, Hebrews 2:17 says … it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren (fellow human beings)
5. Born of a woman: Jesus Christ was born of the virgin Mary, taking on human nature (Luke 1:28-35; Galatians 4:4)
6. Human body prepared for Him: Jesus Christ’s body was ready for Him in the manner of the first Adam, which made Him the last Adam (1 Corinthians 15:45; Hebrews 10:5)
7. Fully human: Jesus Christ took on human flesh, experiencing human emotions, temptations, and limitations.
8. Human emotions: Jesus Christ experienced human emotions, such as joy, sorrow, and anger (John 11:35, Mark 3:5)
9. Human limitations and temptations: Jesus Christ experienced human limitations, such as hunger, thirst, and fatigue; tempted as we are (Matthew 4:1-11; John 4:6, 19:28).
Significance
1. Fulfillment of Prophecy and Promise: His birth fulfilled Old Testament prophecies and promises
2. Demonstration of Love: God became human, demonstrating His love and willingness to relate with humanity.
3. Salvation: God enables humanity to receive salvation through faith in Jesus Christ to save humanity from sin.
4. Hope and Redemption: God provides eternal hope and redemption to all people.
5. Kingdom Establishment: His birth marks the beginning of God's kingdom on earth.
The birth of Jesus Christ is deeply significant for Christians and indeed the whole world, as it marks the moment of God's entrance into the world in human form, fulfilling ancient prophecies, offering salvation to humanity, and revealing God's great love and humility. The Incarnation was made possible by the will of God, the power of the Holy Spirit, and the fulfillment of God's eternal plan for salvation.
Ensure you are reconciled to God this season. His birth is the reason for the season. If you have yet to accept Jesus as your Lord and personal Saviour, this is the right time to do so, as you repeat the following:
Lord Jesus, I believe that you came to this world, you suffered and died for my sins. I believe also that I am a sinner and I cannot save myself, but you have paid for my sins so that your righteousness will become mine through your shed blood. I am sorry for all my sins against God and against humanity. I accept Jesus into my heart now as my Lord and personal Saviour. Thank you for saving me. I ask for grace and power in Christ Jesus to be able to live as a true Christian in Jesus Name.
Compliments of the season!
Shalom.
